Who missed the cut at Players? List includes two in world top 20

PONTE VEDRA BEACH — The Players Championship almost lost the No. 1 player in the world for the weekend, but Scottie Scheffler was able to finish his final two holes in 1-under to make the cut with one shot to spare.

Scheffler missed a 2 1/2-foot par putt on No. 16 to fall to the cut line, which was 2-over. But after a par on the par-3 17th, he birdied the par 4 18th hole for a 73.

Scheffler is 1-over and tied for 51st after 36 holes. He has made 70 consecutive cuts, including on the number at the Genesis Invitational.

The biggest names who will not be around for the final two rounds: Tequesta’s Lucas Glover who was 3-over; Jupiter’s Ben Griffin and Delray Beach’s Gary Woodland at 4-over; Jupiter’s Shane Lowry at 5-over; and Harris English at 6-over.

Griffin (No. 13) and English (No. 16) are the highest ranked players to miss the cut. Griffin shot a 78 in the second round. English carded a 77.

Lowry was even par entering his final hole on the first round and put two balls into the water to close with a quadruple bogey 8. His tournament ended with a 73 in the second round.

Lowry blew a three shot lead with three holes to play at the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches, finishing the final three holes in 4-over.
