Now five training camp practices in, how are the Jacksonville Jaguars performing in the early going?
There is still a long way to go before roles for Week 1 of the regular season are officially determined. And, of course, what takes place as the season unfolds can continue to impact playing time.
But what we know right now about where each of these rookies is positioned can provide us with some insight into what their roles in Year 1 might end up looking like.
So here’s what we know right now.
TE Nate Boerkircher
As expected, Boerkircher has been the secondary option at tight end behind Brenton Strange. Although known for his blocking, Liam Coen has been impressed with what he’s shown as a route runner.
DT Albert Regis
Again, no real surprises here — Regis has been the backup to DaVon Hamilton.
OL Emmanuel Pregnon
Pregnon has been the backup left guard behind Ezra Cleveland.
S Jalen Huskey
In a crowded safety room, Huskey is often behind the more experienced players on the roster, sitting in the fifth spot on the depth chart, with Caleb Ransaw and Rayuan Lane among those ahead of him.
DE Wesley Williams and Zach Durfee
I’ll put these two together. As playing within the defensive end rotation has to shake out, Williams and Durfee seem to mostly be behind Danny Striggow and BJ Green.
WR Josh Cameron and CJ Williams
Both players have very much continued to impress. In a talented wide receiver room, the duo sits behind Brian Thomas Jr., Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington, and Travis Hunter on the depth chart.
TE Tanner Koziol
Koziol has been getting quite a few opportunities early on. He seems to be ahead of Quintin Morris and Hunter Long.
LB Parker Hughes
If the Jaguars end up going heavy and rostering six linebackers, it may end up that Hughes is competing with Jalen McLeod and Yasir Abdullah for one spot.
