It is early, but the Florida State Seminoles have already shown that they are a new team. They picked up a statement win over the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday, dominating the trenches en route to a 31-17 win.
The win has caused people to reevaluate just what Mike Norvell’s squad can accomplish this year after overhauling the roster and coaching staff over the offseason. The group shined in their Week 1 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide, moving the ball effectively on the ground and taking calculated shots through the air.
On3’s Andy Staples was extremely impressed and featured them in his Week 1 College Football Playoff bracketology as the No. 8 seed, and he thinks they earned some “respect” after beating Alabama.
“We spent the past year bashing the Seminoles, which is understandable given last year’s 2-10 campaign,” he said. “But for the same reason, we need to give new-look Florida State respect after it thumped Alabama 31-17. The Crimson Tide have one of the nation’s most talented rosters, and the Seminoles looked just as fast and a lot more physical. If they can handle that roster, they’re capable of playing with anyone on their schedule.”
The ranking sets them up to host a playoff game against the No. 9 Utah Utes in Doak Campbell Stadium. The Seminoles are one of three ACC teams in his projections, joining the No. 3 Miami Hurricanes and No. 11 Clemson Tigers.
