Florida State football hits the road for the first time in its revitalized 2025 season this week. And they’ll be playing at Virginia a day earlier than usual.
That’s right, FSU (3-0) will not play its ACC opener on Saturday. The Seminoles have been rolling early on, with new quarterback Tommy Castellanos leading the nation’s No. 1 offense (58 points and 628.7 yards per game). They’ve gotten there thanks largely to the No. 2 rushing attack — and sure, matchups against East Texas A&M and Kent State — with five players who already have 100 yards for the season.
FSU won’t the only dynamic offense in Charlottesville on Friday night. UVA (3-1, 1-1 in ACC) has put up 45.5 ppg (11th-best in FBS), ranking 13th in rushing and 20th in passing. Chandler Morris has thrown for 1,080 yards and eight touchdowns, while J’Mari Taylor and Harrison Waylee have combined for 512 rushing yards and 10 TDs.

FSU vs Virginia prediction
Can the Florida State defense put the clamps on Virginia’s high-flying offense? They passed their first test, holding Alabama to 17 points, though they did let Ty Simpson and the Crimson Tide claw back to within a touchdown before slamming the door for the last 11 minutes of the game. The Seminoles got three sacks and forced a fumble in that game. Say what you will about post-Nick Saban Alabama, but that’s a better team than anyone Virginia has faced so far, and the Cavaliers gave up 35 in a loss at North Carolina State and ACC rushing-leader Daylan Smothers.
If the Tommy Castellanos injury really isn’t anything serious, the FSU offense should be able to keep it up on the road. He did struggle at Virginia last season when he was with Boston College, throwing for 254 yards and two touchdowns but also tossing two interceptions and had negative rushing yardage in a loss. He didn’t have this kind of support behind him, though, and he seems to have a legitimate rapport with Micahi Danzy and Duce Robinson. Prediction: FSU 42, Virginia 27
