What's that construction under way along U.S. 1 in this Florida city?

SEBASTIAN — Wonder what’s going up along U.S. 1 in Sebastian? It’s an RV- and boat-storage facility, which plans to open by the end of June.

Old Florida Boat & RV Storage, 11255 U.S. 1, will offer 182 rental spaces in a fenced facility, monitored with 24/7 security cameras, owner Alex Jansen said in an email. Canopies will be16 feet high, and drive aisles will be 35 feet wide, he said.

The facility will cater to boat and RV owners, with covered spaces ranging from 12-by-20-feet to 12-by-50-feet, he said. The facility will include water washdown stations, an air compressor and ice. Some units will include electricity. The facility is about a mile from the city-owned Sebastian Yacht Club, 820 Indian River Drive, and Main Street Boat Ramp, 700 Main St.

The project began in spring 2023, and construction began in July 2025, he said. Jansen said he is working with a group of partners “who saw the need for a facility like this in the Indian River market.” Construction is expected to be completed in the second quarter of the year, with opening pending certificate of occupancy and required licensing, he said.

Jansen declined to say how much the project will cost.

The company anticipates expanding in the future, he said.
