(This article was revised to include new information and to correct that the depression and lane closures were on the westbound side of the road. The FDOT originally reported it was on the eastbound side.)
Emergency road work continued on Cypress Gardens Boulevard the morning of March 5, but one of the two westbound lanes was open, according to a Florida Department of Transportation traffic alert website.
Both westbound lanes were closed in the late afternoon of March 3 after a depression formed in the roadway just west of U.S. 27. As of 3 p.m. on March 5, the outside westbound lane remained closed, but the inside lane was open.
Janella Newsome, public information director for FDOT District 1, said FDOT is conducting geotechnical testing to determine the cause of the depression.
“Ground-penetrating radar field work was completed yesterday (March 4), and FDOT is currently reviewing those results,” she said in an email to The Ledger. “Additional geotechnical coring is being performed today (March 5). The combination of this information will help engineers determine the cause of the depression and identify the appropriate repair approach.”
She said one lane will likely remain closed at least through the remainder of March 5.
