Drivers can expect a few lane closures around Palm Beach after the Fourth of July, as the Florida Department of Transportation works on two projects along State Road A1A.
The pair of projects got underway in May, with the southernmost work extending from just south of Lake Avenue to Ibis Way, and the other from Emerald Beach Way south of President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club north to Royal Palm Way.
Each project includes milling and resurfacing the road, also called Jimmy Buffett Memorial Highway, South Ocean Boulevard or South County Road.
FDOT will not close lanes July 4, the agency said.
Here’s a look at the lane closures drivers in Palm Beach can expect from these projects through July 11.
Lake Avenue to Ibis Way
This 2.1-mile project has a $5.9 million budget and is scheduled to be completed the summer of 2026, FDOT said.
In addition to milling and repaving the road, FDOT contractors will widen the bicycle lanes to 5 feet in each direction, upgrade pedestrian signals at intersections, add a new traffic signal mast arm at the Par 3 Golf Course, install a new pedestrian crossing beacon at Phipps Ocean Park, replace sections of the sidewalk, replace drainage and install new decorative lighting.

Emerald Beach Way to Royal Palm Way
This 2.3-mile project has an $8.2 million budget and is scheduled to be completed in late 2026, FDOT said. The work includes South Ocean Boulevard north through the Southern Boulevard traffic circle to South County Road, then along South County Road through Midtown to Royal Palm Way.
Crews will mill and repave the road, replace traffic signals with decorative mast arms at key intersections in Midtown, update pedestrian signals and roadway lighting, replace drainage, and upgrade other signage and pavement markings. That includes a shared bicycle marking, or “sharrow”, in some places. Town officials have urged FDOT planners to reconsider using sharrows through that area.
