Florida State dropped its fourth straight game this season, and its ninth consecutive ACC loss, on Saturday to the Stanford Cardinal, 20-13.
Despite a game that saw Florida State try to fight back, it was not enough as Stanford survives to move to 3-4 (2-2 in the ACC) on the season, and FSU falls to 3-4, and 0-4 in the ACC, just ahead of Boston College by way of their overall record. This loss likely signals the beginning of yet another lost season and the complete dashing of their ACC Championship hopes and, by extension, their College Football Playoff chances.
Stanford managed to hold a 20-10 lead in the third quarter before an ultimately fruitless comeback attempt on the part of Florida State did not succeed. Tommy Castellanos had a good game, going 14 of 28 for 242 yards and a rushing touchdown. This team has now dropped below .500. There is not much to get excited about except seeing how far this downward spiral will take them.
With all of this in mind, here is what some of the Seminoles’ players had to say after yet another ignominious loss.
Q: You guys had 13 penalties. Coach said it was just undisciplined. Why do you think that was the case?
Earl Little Jr: “Dudes just not being focused in the moment. That’s basically all it boils down to. Everybody has to be focused on doing their [part] and unfortunately we ain’t do that tonight.”
Q: You guys obviously lost coming into this one. Why do you think it’s been off?
Earl Little Jr: “Everybody has to be bought in and and just continue to just do their 1/11 and get back to that brand of football we played in the opening game.”
Q: Where do you think you guys are right now just in terms of being able to process these losses and get back on track?
Earl Little Jr: “I mean obviously it’s tough, but as leaders, I feel like we’re we’re we’re going to bounce back and we’re going to do a great job, holding guys accountable and for their actions and we’ll be back on top. We’ll be all right. Just a little adversity.”
