Who will walk away from Oakmont with the 2025 U.S. Open championship? The contenders are not who we expected heading into golf’s third major.
J.J. Spaun (with five career PGA Tour victories) and Sam Burns (with one) fought back and forth for the lead throughout Saturday’s third round, while LIV Golf’s Carlos Ortiz shot up into contention with a strong day. Some more prominent names aren’t far behind, as Adam Scott is in play for his first major title since the 2013 Masters while Tyrrell Hatton and Viktor Hovland are vying for their first ever. And you can never rule out Scottie Scheffler, no matter how far back he’s lurking.
Everyone in the field will have their eyes on the weather forecast, as rain threatens to delay the final round as it did Friday.
