Ludvig Åberg and Xander Schauffele rocketed to the top of the leaderboard at the 2026 Players Championship, setting up what promises to be a captivating moving day at TPC Sawgrass.
Åberg, the Swedish national who lives in Ponte Vedra Beach, had the course record in his sights before “settling” for a 63. That puts him at 12 under par for the tournament and gives him a two-stroke lead over Schauffele, who put up the most impressive round of the early groups with a 65. The two will be in the final pairing for Round 3 with both chasing their first win at The Players.
Cameron Young and Corey Conners also shot up the leaderboard thanks to matching 5-under days in Round 2, putting them in position to make a move over the weekend. Sepp Straka, Jacob Bridgeman, Russell Henley and Lee Hodges are among those also looking to make a jump Saturday. Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are much farther down, closer to the cut line than their third Players titles.

The Players Championship is held at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, about 25 miles southeast of Jacksonville. Who won the 2025 Players Championship?
Rory McIlroy beat J.J. Spaun in a playoff held Monday after both finished 12 under par in the final round of the 2025 Players Championship. McIlroy birdied the first playoff hole and all but wrapped up the title when Spaun hit into the water on the 17th. It was McIlroy’s second Players Championship victory, and he would go on to win his first Masters title the following month.
