It’s always football season in Florida, so it makes sense that the first season of the Orlando Storm in the United Football League would result in hosting a playoff game. They’ll take on the reigning champion DC Defenders today for a place in the United Bowl championship game next week.
After a scheduling snafu briefly moved the game to Columbus, Ohio, Orlando will feel like the home team at Daytona Stadium. They deserve to after an impressive 8-2 inaugural season saw the Storm finish with the best record in the UFL. With an offense led by the league’s leading passer and MVP favorite Jack Plummer, and featuring former Florida State running back Jashaun Corbin, Orlando enters the playoffs on a four-game winning streak.
The Storm’s last two wins of the regular season came against DC, which began its rise to prominence in the spring league since before the XFL and USFL merger in 2024. Starting QB Jordan Ta’amu suffered a season-ending injury in the first game, with Spencer Sanders taking over the rest of the way. The Defenders will look to Deon Jackson, the UFL’s leading rusher, to carry their title defense and snap their losing skid.

The winner faces either Louisville or St. Louis for the championship June 13 in Washington, D.C. Will anyone try a four-point 60-yard field goal or go for three today? (Yes, the UFL’s unique rules are pretty fun.) Here’s what to know about today’s game, including how to watch on TV and streaming:

Orlando Storm vs DC Defenders prediction
Orlando 31, DC 16: “Orlando has been the hottest team in the UFL for a reason — it’s the full package. The Storm allow the least amount of points to their opponents, have the least amount of turnovers given away, and they have the league’s leading passer and a top-three rusher. Orlando has already beaten DC twice in the last two weeks. The Defenders’ offense just simply hasn’t been the same since losing its starting quarterback, and while I expect Bean or Sanders to lead DC to paydirt a couple times, it won’t be enough to defend (pun intended) its title.” – Zach Allen, Daytona Beach News-Journal
Where is Daytona Stadium?
Orlando’s regular home field, Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando, was unavailable to host Sunday’s playoff game because the stadium needed to prepare for the England vs. Costa Rica friendly tune-up June 10 before the World Cup. The UFL playoff game will be held at Daytona Stadium in Daytona Beach, Florida. Home of the Bethune-Cookman football team, the 9,600-seat stadium is just down LPGA Boulevard from the LPGA International golf course and about 5 miles southwest of Daytona International Speedway.
