Wewahitchka man faces up to life in prison for meth sales

A Wewahitchka man was convicted on drug charges by a federal jury, according to Jack Heekin, the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Florida.

Ronnie Lee Small Jr., 48, was found guilty of three counts of distribution of methamphetamine, Heekin said in a June 26 news release.

“Meth has devastated entire communities in the Northern District of Florida, leaving a trail of addiction, death, and despair in its wake,” Heekin said.

“This defendant enriched himself by peddling this deadly poison, but his drug dealing days are over thanks to the excellent investigative work by our state and federal law enforcement partners and the aggressive prosecution by my office.”

“We have a lot more work to do, but I am committed to delivering the safe, drug-free streets that our citizens deserve with more successful prosecutions like this one,” Heekin added.

Evidence presented at trial showed that Small sold methamphetamine on three occasions to a confidential source who was working with the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office.

He now faces 10 years to life imprisonment and a fine of up to $20,000,000. Sentencing has been set for Sept. 11, at the U.S. Courthouse in Pensacola before U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle.
