PANAMA CITY − Cpl. Mario Lupica of the Bay County Sheriff’s Office says it’s important for everyone to have some sort understanding on how to treat critical injuries.
Becuase of this, the Sheriff’s Office is hosting a Stop The Bleed class on May 27. This is a national training initiative launched in 2015 to help bystanders know how to stop bleeding during a critical injury until trained professionals arrive.
“This is (a) version of tactical combat causality care from the military,” Lupica said. “Hemorrhage control is the No. 1 cause of death after traumatic injury.”
He noted the class will teach participates how to properly apply direct pressure to a wound, pack a wound and how to effectively use a tourniquet.
“It is distilled down to the most basic stuff you need to keep somebody alive,” Lupica said. “The basic stuff saves lives.”
The register for the free class, which will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on May 27, email mario.lupica@bayso.org. Lupica noted spots are limited, and it might at capacity. However, the department is planning to host additional classes later this year.
