UNF women's tennis team clinches ASUN title with clutch three-set victories

Graduate senior Isabel Oliveira and sophomore Aryana Bartlett won three-set singles matches to lift the University of North Florida women’s tennis team over Florida Gulf Coast 4-2 on April 18 at the FGCU Tennis Complex in Fort Myers to clinch the Ospreys’ 11th ASUN Tournament Championship and their first since 2023. 

UNF ran its dual match record to 25-0 with three victories in the tournament and lost only two points. The Ospreys blanked Bellarmine 4-0 and North Alabama 4-0 in the first two rounds.

UNF remains the only NCAA Division I team that is undefeated in dual matches. 

However, the two points were both scored by the Eagles when they tied UNF 2-2 after going 1-2 in doubles and losing the fourth singles spot when Cecilie Maeland of Gulf Coast (16-8) defeated UNF’s May Fadida 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. 

However, Oliveira beat June Bjork 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 and Bartlett topped Ashley Matz 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 for the clinching points. Gabby Goyins beat Sabrina Jaramillo 6-2, 6-3 and Anslee Long topped Anjali Kotecha 6-3, 6-2 in the other singles victories for UNF. 

No. 1 singles played Laurie Barendse fought back from a first-set loss and was leading Nora Svensson 4-3 in the third set When UNF clinched the match. She has a 17-4 singles record and has led in three of her four unfinished matches. 

UNF will learn its opponent for the first round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament during the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Selection Show on April 27 at 5:30 p.m.
