The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting in a Sarasota neighborhood that left two people dead Saturday morning.
Deputies responded around 11:45 a.m. Saturday, May 23, to the Artistry neighborhood in Sarasota after receiving a report of a shooting, according to the sheriff’s office.
In an update posted on social media Saturday afternoon, the sheriff’s office said deputies found two dead people on the back porch of a home in the 4700 block of Mondrian Court.
Artistry Sarasota is advertised as a single-family home community featuring a lakefront clubhouse, resort-style pool, playground and nature trail. Located at the eastern end of Palmer Boulevard near Lorraine Road, the neighborhood sits east of Interstate 75 in Sarasota County.
Authorities said the suspected shooter was taken into custody at the scene and is being interviewed at the sheriff’s office headquarters.
“All parties involved have been accounted for and there is no threat to the public,” the sheriff’s office stated.
Detectives with the agency’s Criminal Investigations Section remained on scene Saturday afternoon.
The sheriff’s office has not yet released the identities of the victims or the person in custody. Additional details about what led to the shooting were not immediately available.
