This Palm Beach restaurant has the in-house chips you crave

Anyone who has munched potato chips alongside a sandwich from Buccan Sandwich Shop in Palm Beach may be apt to say: This side crunch to the sandwiches here — from beef carpaccio to yellowfin-tuna salad — is a standout.

The reason is the culinary ethos at Buccan Sandwich Shop, 350 S. County Road, led by chef-partner and multiple-time James Beard Award nominee Clay Conley: If anything can be made in house, it shall be — right down to the bread on which the sandwiches are served.

Every morning for Buccan Sandwich Shop’s offerings, potatoes are sliced thin in preparation for the daily fried chips, which, depending on what one orders, can accompany a sandwich, salad or even soup.

They’re not free, of course. An order of chips is $2.50.

The potatoes used are known as Big Chippers, which primarily are grown in in Idaho and known for being high-solid/low-sugar spuds that result in great chips and/or fries.
