After a day of festivities celebrating the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary, thousands of soldiers, two dozen M1 Abrams tanks and dozens of other military vehicles will parade down Constitution Avenue near the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on Saturday evening.
The June 14 event falls on the same day as President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday and Flag Day.
The parade — estimated to cost nearly $40 million, USA TODAY reported — will be the first of its kind since a 1991 parade to mark the end of the first Gulf War.
Saturday’s parade follows a day of more than 2,000 “No Kings” protests across the country, including at least four in the Jacksonville area, drawing millions of protesters critical of the 47th president and his administration, including the recent deployment of National Guard troops and Marines to Los Angeles, where some protests of the administration’s immigration enforcement raids turned violent.
