The Neighborhood Center of West Volusia has more housing on the way

Two developments planned in DeLand will help The Neighborhood Center of West Volusia, a longtime provider of homelessness services, provide more transitional and permanent housing to people in need.

One of the developments recently broke ground. Blue Sky Communities is building the New York Avenue Apartments, an 84-unit development at 225 W. New York Ave. near DeLand City Hall.

Rents are expected to be around $400-$1,000 a month. Also, 13 apartments will be set aside for people coming from The Neighborhood Center of West Volusia, a homelessness services nonprofit in DeLand. The development is expected to open in the spring of 2027.

Also, The Neighborhood Center plans to build a tiny home community next to the nonprofit’s shelter at 421 S. Palmetto Ave.

“It will serve as transitional housing for people moving out of our Bridge and family emergency shelters,” Neighborhood Center CEO Savannah-Jane Griffin said in a video posted to the nonprofit’s YouTube page.

What services does The Neighborhood Center of West Volusia offer?

The Neighborhood Center provides a range of services to prevent homelessness and help those without housing. Services include food, rent and utility assistance, housing and more.
