Part of the nationwide USA TODAY Network, the Times-Union has won numerous awards for its journalism, including the 1968 Pulitzer Prize for Spot News Photography for its sister publication, the now-defunct afternoon newspaper the Jacksonville Journal, for the iconic “Kiss of Life” photo. In 2021, the newspaper won the Frances DeVore Award for Public Service and the Lucy Morgan Award for In-Depth Reporting for its year-long investigation into the attempts to sell JEA.

Who owns the Times-Union? 

The Times-Union, part of the USA TODAY Network, is owned by Gannett Co. For most of the 20th century, the Times-Union was owned by the Florida Publishing Company, until 1983, when Augusta, Ga.-based Morris Communications acquired the Times-Union and Jacksonville Journal from the Florida Publishing Company. GateHouse Media purchased The Florida Times-Union from Morris in 2017, and in 2019, Gannett merged with GateHouse to become the newspaper’s current owner. 

Where is the Times-Union printed? 

The Florida Times-Union’s print edition is produced in Gainesville, using the presses of the Gainesville Sun, another Gannett Florida property. Our reporters live and work in Northeast Florida, and the Times-Union utilizes reporting from other Gannett Florida newspapers and others in the USA TODAY Network.
