Springfield Police Chief Barry Roberts told a News Herald reporter that police received a phone call about 7:55 a.m. from a 911 center in Texas.

The female victim had contacted a friend who lived in Texas, who dialed the authorities. They were able to figure out where the incident was occurring and reached out to Springfield police.

Officers were already being dispatched to the area when they got the call. The female victim herself had also called 911. Roberts pointed out that the mobile home park is directly across the street from the city hall and their police annex.

Officers forced entry into the home and found that the victim had been shot several times. Roberts said the 65-year-old male shooter was found dead with what they believe to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The woman was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Police said they believe the shooting is an isolated domestic situation and there is no additional threat to the public.
