Florida’s Space Coast hosted a record-shattering 109 orbital rocket launches in 2025, surpassing all previous annual records.
Though this year’s pace is falling short of the unprecedented cadence at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in 2025, 50 rockets still launched from the Sunshine State so far in 2026. For comparison, 31 launches occurred during all of 2021 — which was enough to tie Florida’s annual record back then.
This year, April was a historic month for rocket launches from Florida, starting with NASA’s Artemis II lunar mission that launched from the Kennedy Space Center and carried four astronauts farther than any human has been in space for a flyby around the moon.
Launches slowed down in the summer. May, June and July only saw six launches from Florida each month. In addition, Blue Origin experienced a tremendous setback when its New Glenn rocket exploded during a hot-fire test at Launch Complex 36 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, knocking the company’s launches off the Eastern Range manifest for the foreseeable future.

Florida’s August rocket launch schedule should feature the usual heavy diet of SpaceX’s workhorse Falcon 9 rockets on Starlink and AST SpaceMobile missions. And space fans are looking forward to a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket launching NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope in a high-profile scientific mission later this month.
Depending on the weather, cloud cover and trajectory, rocket launches from Florida’s Space Coast are sometimes visible as far north as Jacksonville Beach and as far south as West Palm Beach. In some cases, rockets launched from Florida’s East Coast were spotted from the state’s West Coast and even in other states.

Where does SpaceX launch from in Florida?
Rockets in Florida launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center near Merritt Island, or Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, and people in and around Brevard County usually have the best chance at seeing a rocket light up the sky.
Where can I watch a rocket launch in Florida?
A rocket launch with a Northeast trajectory can be visible as far north as Jacksonville Beach, Florida, which is about 160 miles north of Cape Canaveral (about a two-hour and 30-minute car ride, depending on which route you take).
Rocket launches with a Southeast trajectory can be seen as far south as West Palm Beach, Florida, which is about 150 miles south of Cape Canaveral (about a two-hour-and-20-minute car ride).
Rocket launches are most visible from the Space Coast, where they launch from, and are often visible from the Treasure Coast and Volusia County as well.
