A small plane turned a major road in New Smyrna Beach into an airstrip early Saturday, July 19, as the craft was forced to make an emergency landing on State Road 44, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred around 9:29 a.m. near Taganana Drive just west of State Road 415, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The pilot, the plane’s only occupant, landed the plane and was uninjured, according to officials.
News reports say the plane was a 2003 Glasair GlaStar, a fixed-wing single-engine kit craft.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
