A small plane crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off Boca Raton on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 22.
The sole passenger on board was uninjured, according to police.
Authorities are advising the public to steer clear of the area near 250 S. Ocean Blvd., near its intersection with East Palmetto Park Road. Emergency personnel were at the scene around midday, along with the U.S. Coast Guard.
The plane was a single-engine Piper plane, commonly used for flight training and personal recreation, police said in a Facebook post.
Police learned of the crash at about 10:15 a.m. It’s unknown what caused the crash, who the occupant was, where the plane took off from and what its destination was.
Paramedics took the person on board to a hospital as a precaution, police said.
The Palm Beach Post has reached out to the Federal Aviation Agency and the National Transportation Safety Board for comment.
