PFF grades: Jaguars best and worst performers v. Panthers in preseason

Following the Jacksonville Jaguars’ performance in Week 2 of the preseason against the Carolina Panthers, which players received the highest grades from Pro Football Focus, and which received the lowest?

Now, before we dive into all that, I do want to mention that while PFF’s grading system is certainly helpful at quantifying a player’s performance, it is not the be-all and end-all when it comes to evaluations. It is one tool out of many that are out there and should be treated as such.

For some context around these grades, below is the grading scale.

Jaguars’ 5 highest-graded players on offense

Trebor Pena has been able to shine in each of the Jaguars’ preseason games, this time hauling in four receptions for 72 yards and a score. Wortham caught all three of his targets for 41 yards.

Mullens had a bounce-back performance after last week’s game, completing 6-of-7 passes at 9.3 yards per attempt. Cameron continues to stand out, as he has done since arriving in Jacksonville.

Abdullah reminded us not to forget him at the running back position. He averaged over seven yards per carry on six attempts and had three receptions for 37 yards.

Jaguars’ 5 highest-graded players on defense

Burney led the defense in solo tackles and recorded three run stops. Durfee’s pass rush grade of 77.9 elevated his overall grade. Thomas Jr. had a pressure and two stops in the run game.

Spector had four tackles, and on the one play he was targeted, he made the tackle for a three-yard loss. Ransaw had five tackles and didn’t give up any completions in coverage.

Jaguars’ 5 lowest-graded players overall

Abdullah had two pressures, but struggled in coverage, giving up three receptions on three targets for 35 yards. Rose had a missed tackle and no pressures over 18 pass rush snaps. Orhorhor also had a quiet day as a pass rusher and received a run defense grade of 39.6.

Hodge allowed two completions on three targets for 21 yards. He had a missed tackle and one quarterback pressure. Long was 0-for-1 when targeted and was credited with a dropped pass in the end zone.
