There will be a public viewing for Indian River County sheriff’s Sgt. Terri Sweeting-Mashkow from 2-6 p.m. Dec. 1.
The viewing at Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home and Crematory, 1655 27th St. in Vero Beach, is one of two events this week to honor Sweeting-Mashkow, who was killed in the line of duty while serving an eviction notice on Nov. 21.
A funeral with honors is planned for 11 a.m. Dec. 2 at Corporate Air Inc., 2612 Airport North Drive in Vero Beach, followed by a burial at Crestlawn Cemetery, 1216 14th St. in Vero Beach.
Sweeting-Mashkow, 47, and two other deputies went to a home in the 1100 block of Governors Way in the Bermuda Club to evict Michael Halberstam, 37, from his mother’s home when he started indiscriminately shooting.
Locksmith David Long, 76, died from gunshot wounds on Nov. 23. A public funeral for Long is planned for 2 p.m. Dec. 4 at Calvary Chapel, 941 18th St. in Vero Beach.
Also at the scene was Indian River County sheriff’s Deputy Tino Arizpe, who was released from HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital on Nov. 23 after being treated for a gunshot wound in the shoulder.
Sgt. Gary Farless was at the scene, but uninjured.
Sweeting-Mashkow is the second sheriff’s deputy killed in the line of duty in about 100 years.
