How does one choose between two champions of differing skillsets?
On one hand, you have Christopher Gordon, Rockledge’s world class sprinter.
On the other hand, you have Evan Spreitzer, Holy Trinity’s champion distance runner.
Gordon won the FHSAA Class 3A state title in the 400-meter with a time of 47.18 seconds.
He also took second place in the 200m (21.14) and third place in the 100m (10.52) at the state meet in Jacksonville.
The senior also swept all three events at the Cape Coast Conference meet, as well as District 13-3A meet.
Meanwhile, Spreitzer won the Class 1A state title in the 1600m with a time of 4 minutes, 14.51 seconds.
He also was runner-up in the 3200m with a time of 9:26.77.
Spreitzer swept both events at the District 8-1A meet as well as the Region 2-1A meet.
He also was part of the 4×400 relay team that won the District 8-1A meet and the 4×800 relay team that won at the Region 2-1A meet.
Both Gordon’s 400m time and Spreitzer’s 1600m time were the sixth best in their respective events in the state this year.
When you mix in all those factors, choosing a single All-Space Coast track and field athlete of the year doesn’t seem right.
So, FLORIDA TODAY is choosing co-All-Space Coast track and field athletes of the year in Gordon and Spreitzer.
Congratulations to both.
