Section of North Lake Way closed through Aug. 1 in Palm Beach

A lakefront stretch of North Lake Way will close this week as crews work to repave the road.

Palm Beach will mill and resurface the scenic drive between Country Club Road on the south and Bahama Lane to the north from July 28 through Aug. 1, the town said in an email.

Milling and resurfacing the roads in that area mark the final step in two sections of the town’s work to move utility lines underground throughout the entire island, Deputy Town Engineer Julie Parham told the Daily News via email.

The portion of North Lake Way affected by this week’s closure is the segment that has the Lake Trail and Intracoastal Waterway to the west, with the Palm Beach Country Club golf course to the east.

Northbound traffic will be detoured east on Country Club Road to North County Road, and southbound traffic will be directed along Bahama Lane to North Ocean Boulevard, the town said.

Residents will be able to access their homes throughout the work but should expect some lane closures and limited access to roads, the town said. Drivers should follow all detour signs and plan additional time for any trips, according to the notice.

The two sections of Palm Beach’s 10-year, $128 million undergrounding project that are being wrapped up include all roads south of but not including Bahama Lane, south to Kawama Lane with North Lake Way, North County Road and North Ocean Boulevard, Parham said.

Crews will mill the existing asphalt and then replace it with new, smooth asphalt under the town’s $1.8 million contract, she said.

As work continues on roads in that area, homeowners who will be affected will by given advance notice via door hanger, Parham said.

Palm Beach’s undergrounding project is on track to be completed in 2027, Town Engineer Patricia Strayer told the Town Council during an update on July 8.
