Sand Sculpting Championships declare winners

The 35th American Sand Sculpting Championship on Fort Myers Beach produced some marvels and showed visitors that art is everywhere.

The five-day championship set the sand sculptors in two divisions creating on Thursday, Nov. 20 and wrapped up their works on Sunday, Nov. 23, with a day left of viewing at DiamondHead Beach Resort

As the sculptures took shape, thousands of people stood enthralled as blue skies and crashing waves provided ambiance to the championship that featured vendors, music and food specialties in its 35th year.

Master Sculptors Division winners

Here are the winners this year from the Master Scuptors Division:

First place: ‘Intro Spect’ by Todd Pangborn

Second place: ‘Monkeying Around’ by John Gowdy

Third place: ‘The Fence’ by Matt Diebert

Sculptor’s Choice: ‘Swimming’ by Ferenc Monostori

Semi-pro sand sculpting winners

The Semi-Pro winners:

First place: ‘Still Standing’ by Pete Faverio

Second place: ‘Consotusnal Cricis’ by Scott Triplett

Third place: ‘Gritty Kitty’ by John Martinez
