In her first social media post since the death of her husband and NASCAR legend Kyle Busch, Samantha Busch expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support.
“As a family, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you,” Samantha wrote on Instagram on June 5.
Since Kyle Busch died at age 41 of pneumonia that progressed into sepsis on May 21, tributes from around the racing and outside worlds have flooded in.
NASCAR honored the two-time Cup Series champion in myriad ways, including a speech by CEO Steve O’Donnell, with Samantha and family standing next to him, and a moment of silence before a race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Indianapolis 500 drivers put decals with Busch’s No. 8 on their cars.
Even at Daytona International Speedway, which hasn’t hosted a NASCAR race since February and won’t again until August, a makeshift memorial was set up. Fans dropped flowers, M&M’s (Busch’s longtime sponsor), handwritten notes and more under a poster bearing Busch’s image.
“The prayers, messages, flowers, meals, hugs, and countless acts of kindness have carried us through the most heartbreaking days of our lives,” Samantha continued. “While our hearts are absolutely shattered, we have felt God’s presence and arms wrapped tightly around us through each and every one of you.
“The love that has surrounded our family during this unimaginable time has brought comfort in the middle of so much pain. Knowing the impact Kyle had on others and seeing how they are honoring him through each unique act of generosity is a true testament to how special Kyle is to so many people. There are moments when the weight of this loss feels impossible to carry, yet time and time again God, through you all, has shown us we are not alone.”
Samantha, 40, married Kyle in 2010. They have two children: 11-year-old son Brexton and 4-year-old daughter Lennix.
