Sophia Cherek, a senior at Rutherford High School in Panama City, received thrilling news during the school’s senior recognition ceremony on April 23.
The standout student was awarded the prestigious Rhoda H. Molk Memorial Fund of Raymond James Charitable Scholarship, an award given to only nine students throughout the state of Florida.
To receive the annual $17,760 for undergraduate studies, students must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, National Merit distinction and financial need. The tuition assistance may be renewed for up to four years.
“Sophia’s achievement is truly impressive,” Aimee Bright, executive director of the Bay Education Foundation, said in a news release. “This is a life changing scholarship that will open doors and create opportunities for her future. We are incredibly proud of her and excited to see all that she will accomplish.”
