Volunteers from Florida Power & Light Co. and the Bay County Council on Aging distributed hurricane preparedness meal kits to seniors in Panama City on June 25.
Since 2016, FPL has worked with local nonprofits to help vulnerable seniors prepare for storm season by delivering thousands of hurricane kits, which include a preparedness guide and three days of shelf-stable food, water and snacks, the company’s website says.
Shane Boyett, an external affairs manager with FPL, said 900 kits will be distributed throughout his coverage area.
“More than anything, we just want our customers to be ready for the storm season,” Boyett said before the seniors arrived to the Bay County Council on Aging office for Bingo. “Our most vulnerable citizens are hardest hit oftentimes by natural disasters.”
