Flagler Palm Coast led the Volusia-Flagler contingent at the Region 1-4A track and field meet by placing inside the top four in the boys and girls standings.
On May 2 at Seminole High School, the Bulldog boys racked up 56 points to slot second behind champion Tocoi Creek’s 61. Spruce Creek finished 15th, and DeLand tied for 17th.
Creekside topped the girls leaderboard with 98 points. Flagler Palm Coast settled into fourth with 44. Spruce Creek also cracked the top 10, tying for ninth, while DeLand ranked 19th.
FPC’s boys collected two victories. Logan Jacobelli sprinted to the front of the pack in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.91 seconds.
The Bulldogs’ 4×400-meter relay team triumphed with a time of 3:18.94. Their 4×800 lineup took second.
Karina Marcelus picked up two wins for the Flagler Palm Coast girls. She spearheaded the triple jump standings with a mark of 12.29 meters and prevailed in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.18 seconds.
Spruce Creek also had two victories.
Tryce Mills won the boys javelin, which featured an entirely local top three. Following Mills’ throw of 57.96 meters, DeLand’s Connor York placed second (56.88) and Flagler Palm Coast’s La’Darius Simmons was third (53.58).
The Hawks’ Mikayla Palmer earned the girls high jump crown, clearing 1.72 meters.
The Class 4A state championships are set for May 9. Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville will host each classification’s event.
Region 1-3A
Matanzas represented the Volusia-Flagler area at the Region 1-3A meet on May 2 at Pine Forest High School. The girls placed 10th and the boys 25th.
Peyton Cerasi produced both of the Pirates’ victories in the distance runs. She claimed the 1,600-meter with a time of 5:04.57 and the 3,200-meter in 11:01.06. In the latter, she beat Chiles’ Emma-Claire Ranenbaum by 0.33 seconds.
Class 3A states will take place May 8.
Region 2-3A
Multiple local programs charged into the top three at the Region 2-3A championships.
On the boys side, New Smyrna Beach tied Gateway for second. They each accumulated 56 points while champion Wesley Chapel amassed 109. Seabreeze also rallied for sixth. Mainland took 11th, with Pine Ridge 19th and Deltona 24th.
In the girls standings, Mainland and New Smyrna Beach knotted for third with 53 points apiece. That trailed winner Bishop Moore by 13. Seabreeze also tied for 24th.
Mainland’s girls grabbed two event wins.
Aquila Rivers crossed the finish line first in the 400-meter dash, turning in a time of 59.41. She was the only participant to go under a minute. In the same event, Mainland’s Jalissa Rodney followed in third.
The Buccaneers also captured the top spot in the 4×400-meter relay. Their time was 4:05.68.
Molly Brock snatched a win in the pole vault for the New Smyrna Beach girls. She cleared 3 meters, and her teammate, Reace Galerno, secured third place.
Brison Sullivan led the Barracuda boys. He won the javelin title with a launch of 57.56 meters. Sullivan also added a second-place finish in the discus and a third-place mark in the shot put.
Region 2-2A
In Region 2-2A action on May 1 at Wildwood High School, Mekhi Yan put Atlantic on the board with a victory in the boys high jump. He leaped over 1.97 meters.
The Sharks placed 19th.
The Class 2A state meet is scheduled for May 7.
Region 2-1A
Also competing May 1 at Wildwood, Father Lopez rose to third in the Region 2-1A girls standings. The Green Wave recorded 51 points. The champion, Oak Hall, notched 126.
Father Lopez’s Lauren Lancing won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.96. Mia Bruno-Lodwig also earned runner-up status in the shot put with a mark of 10.01 meters.
In the boys standings, Trinity Christian slotted 23rd and Father Lopez was 29th.
Class 1A’s state meet will be the first of the week on May 6.
