Predictions for Jaguars' final four games, how Houston can catch them

The Jacksonville Jaguars sit alone atop the AFC South standings with four games remaining in the 2025 season.

If the Jaguars (9-4) can win just one of their final four games, it will be there first 10-win season since 2017, and just their seventh double-digit win season in their 30-year history.

If they win two more games, it will be their first 11-win season since 2007 and would be their best record since owner Shad Khan purchased the team in Dec. 2011.

The Jaguars have had three 11-win seasons (1997, 1998, 2007). They’ve had one 12-win season (2005), no 13-win seasons, and their best year was 14-2 in 1999.

Can the Jaguars hang on and win the AFC South with hard-charging Houston (8-5) and slumping Indianapolis (8-5) one game back each?

Here’s a look at their last four games:

New York Jets at Jaguars, 1 p.m. Dec. 14

The Jets can’t get out of their own way. They head into this game having just lost to the Miami Dolphins 34-10. They’re starting quarterback Justin Fields was struggling before he got hurt, career backup Tyrod Taylor wasn’t much better before he was injured against, and now the Jets may be starting undrafted rookie Brady Cook.

Prediction: Jaguars 27, Jets 6 (Jaguars improve to 10-4)

Jaguars at Denver Broncos, 4:05 p.m. Dec. 21

Easily the Jaguars’ toughest test remaining, this game will tell us a lot about how good the Jaguars really are. Both teams feature stout defenses and both teams have feature a quarterback that many people still question. The Broncos are fourth in the NFL in both fewest yards per game allowed and fewest points per game allowed. The Jaguars are 11th in the NFL in fewest yards per game allowed and 10th in fewest points per game allowed.

Prediction: Broncos 33, Jaguars 24 (Jaguars fall to 10-5)

Jaguars at Indianapolis Colts, 1 p.m. Dec. 28

With Daniel Jones out for the season, the Colts’ magical season seems to have come to an end. Jonathan Taylor has traditionally played better against the Jaguars inside the friendly confines of Lucas Oil Stadium, but with Riley Leonard the only other QB listed on the team’s depth chart, they may be in for a long final month of the season.

Prediction: Jaguars 25, Colts 13 (Jaguars improve to 11-5)

Tennessee Titans at Jaguars, time TBD Jan. 3 or 4

The Titans showed some life in Week 14 by outdueing Cleveland 31-29. However, the Jags are a good deal better than Cleveland and recently dominated the Titans to the tune of 25-3. This one might be closer, but the Jaguars still are the better team.

Prediction: Jaguars 25, Titans 6 (Jaguars finish 12-5)

What about the Houston Texans?

For these purposes, let’s eliminate the Colts from playoff talk. Their final four games include the Seahawks, 49ers, Jaguars and Texans. With a young backup QB, that’s too much to handle.

The Texans, on the other hand, could very well win out.

Their final four games include the Cardinals and Raiders at home, at the Chargers and they close at at home with the Colts. The Chargers appear to be the only team that might have a chance against the league’s top defensive team.

If the Jaguars go 3-1 as predicted, and the Texans win their final four games, both teams would finish with 12-5 records.

In keeping with this scenario, that means the Jaguars would end the season 5-1 in AFC South play. The Texans would finish 5-1 as well.

The Jaguars and Texans split the season series 1-1.

The Jaguars would be 9-3 against AFC opponents, while the Texans would be 10-2.

The Texans would win the AFC South on tiebreakers.

In other words, the only way to ensure the Jaguars will win the AFC South is to win all four of their final games, or hope the Texans falter in one.

The final month of the season will be nerve-racking for Jaguars fans.
