Port St. Joe man, 86, dies after his car hits a concrete island near Tyndall Air Force Base

PANAMA CITY − An 86-year-old man is dead after hitting a concrete island and overpass near Tyndall Air Force Base.

According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident happened about 10:30 p.m. on July 9 near U.S. 98 and Airey Avenue. The victim was from Port St. Joe.

The FHP said the man was traveling east along U.S. 98 on the exit ramp to Airey Avenue and struck a concrete island. He then continued east and hit the overpass.

FHP was assisted by responders from Tyndall Air Force Base.

“(The driver) was unresponsive at the scene and was transported to Bay Ascension Sacred Heart, where he was later pronounced deceased,” the report reads.
