Planning outdoor fun for Mother's Day. Here's your Florida forecast

If time has slipped away from you, consider this your friendly reminder: Mother’s Day is coming this weekend.

Celebrated on the second Sunday of May, Sunday, May 10, is a day set aside to honor mom.

Heavy rain is possible over the weekend in the Panhandle and North Florida, but the rest of the state could see above-normal — think hot — temperatures.

“Early-season heat waves like this can catch many off guard,” the National Weather Service Miami warned. “It’s imperative that anyone with outdoor plans this weekend has a plan to stay hydrated and find relief from the sunshine.”

Burn bans issued in 50 Florida counties

Burn bans have been issued for 50 of Florida’s 67 counties.

What is a burn ban?

The Florida Forest Service tries combines all county-enacted burn bans on its website.

A burn ban typically prohibits the outside burning of yard trash and vegetation, as well as campfires, bonfires and burn barrels, but can vary by county.

Burn bans are issued when there’s a high risk for wildfires and include such conditions as:
