A 20-year-old Pensacola woman has been released from Escambia County Jail on an $85,000 bond after she was arrested by Florida Highway Patrol troopers for hitting and killing a pedestrian while allegedly driving drunk on Sunday.
In a March 24 release, FHP said Summer Townsend was driving down Lillian Highway on March 22 when she fatally hit a 51-year-old woman walking with an E-bike on the paved apron of the road.
“(Townsend) drifted to the right out of the travel lane allowing the right side tires to enter the south paved apron of State Road 298,” an FHP release said. “As (Townsend) entered the south paved apron, the right front of V-1 struck (the pedestrian) walking with her E-bike.”
FHP said the woman was thrown onto the hood of Townsend’s vehicle before rolling off and striking the pavement. Troopers say Townsend then fled the scene before locating her a short time later.
Troopers booked Townsend on charges of DUI manslaughter, leaving the scene of a crash with death, driving with a suspended license causing death and failing to maintain a single lane.
