Pensacola Sings needs young voices for Spring Season

If your child enjoys singing and music, the Pensacola Children’s Chorus needs their voice for the Pensacola Sings Spring season.

Designed to increase accessibility to music education to children throughout the Pensacola area, the free choral program is looking for first through 12th-graders who want to sing.

“The first few rehearsals have already been held for the season, which will culminate with a concert on May 19 at the Saenger Theatre in downtown Pensacola − for the first time,” said Miguel Aldahondo, director of Community Programs for the Pensacola Children’s Chorus.

Choir sessions are held weekly at three Pensacola locations:

Aldahondo said the rehearsals are held at the three centers to eliminate any barriers related to affordability, location and transportation.

“We would like to have at least 30 singers, 10 at each location, but there is no cap on the number. If we get more than that, it will be wonderful,” he said.

No singing experience is necessary, and it doesn’t matter what type of music a child prefer, participants will learn choral music – with a fun twist.

“It will not be necessarily classical chorus music, but we want to instill the quality that Pensacola Children’s Chorus is known for,” Aldahondo said. “We want to simply provide an outlet that is accessible to all children, especially those who enjoy the arts and music.”

Pensacola Sings is a collaboration between the Pensacola Children’s Chorus and the Pensacola Parks and Recreation Department. Since its launch in March 2023, Pensacola Sings has helped over 142 students learn and grow through the power of music.

“Music is a powerful tool for connection, self-expression and personal growth,” Aldahondo added. “We believe that the children in our community have much to offer through the arts, especially when given the right opportunities. This partnership provides a more accurate representation of not only our youth’s potential but also the commitment of our city.”
