Perhaps the first things that come to mind when you think of Palm Beach are its glamour, its high life and its societal clout.
But in the end, Palm Beach is a sliver of land on a mighty ocean, and it is its natural endowment that makes it special. And perhaps there is nothing so simple and beautiful about this island as going down to the beach in the wee hours to see the sun come up in the east.
For many people, it’s a New Year’s Day ritual, and for others, a place to celebrate a birthday or graduation.
For still others, a Palm Beach sunrise is a good thing to see when you’ve reached a turning point in your life and you need a quiet place to think.
And always there is the natural life of the shore: Water birds, fresh winds, greenery and the water shaping and reshaping the sand. Put them all together, and you have an irresistible canvas for the camera.
Over the years, our photographers have journeyed down to the beach in search of memorable images at sunrise, and they have never been disappointed. And it’s not just the people, their pets and the avian life that they’ve seen and made memorable. Just a picture of the sky itself, with dark clouds in motion surrounding the sun, makes for nothing less than art.
