Pahokee's CeeJay Embry has eyes set on Blue Devils sack record in senior season

CeeJay Embry is a big defensive tackle with an even bigger goal during his senior season.

Pahokee’s two-way juggernaut, a three-star Western Kentucky commit, is gunning to break a Pahokee legend’s record.

DeeJay Holmes Jr. owns the single-season sack record (32.5) for the Blue Devils, an accomplishment set in 2022 — but Embry wants to make sure it doesn’t last.

“I’ve got one particular goal,” he said. “To break the sack record that DeeJay Holmes posted. I just want to go out there and beat that.”

Pahokee’s senior has not been known as a sack specialist thus far in his high-school career, having tallied three sacks last year as a run-stopping force. But it sounds like the lineman is looking to change his game.

“It’s possible,” Embry asserts.

While coach Carlos Lammons Sr. acknowledges it would be an “Aaron-Donald” type of accomplishment for a defensive tackle to record that many sacks, Embry would be the guy to challenge it.

“CeeJay is a force to be reckoned with, man,” Lammons Sr. said. “What makes him a force is his athletic abilities, his size and strength, but he’s also a student of the game. Behind our quarterback, he’s our highest IQ guy on the team. He sniffs out a lot of plays before they even get started. Very smart, intelligent football player, so I believe in him. I would never tell him it’s impossible.”

Whether he reaches that mark, Embry is set to once again be a leader of a defense that allowed fewer than 12 points per game during a 7-4 season.

A three-star defensive lineman and a two-way player last season on both lines, Embry was sought after by a number of schools during his recruiting process.

After committing to Western Kentucky in April, he took an official visit to Florida Atlantic University in June during the offseason.
