Ormond Beach man, 64, dies in crash on US 1 at Flagler-Volusia line

An Ormond Beach man died after his bicycle collided with a pickup truck on U.S. 1 near the Flagler-Volusia county line, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened about 1 p.m. March 22 as the 64-year-old man rode his bicycle northbound in the outside southbound lane of U.S. 1, the FHP stated.

The bicyclist tried to cross into the median in the path of a Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling south in the inside lane of U.S. 1, the FHP stated.

The occupants of the pickup, a 32-year-old Palm Coast man and his passenger a 1-year-old Palm Coast boy, were not injured, the FHP stated. The man and the boy were wearing seatbelts and child restraint, the FHP stated.

The man on the bicycle was not wearing a helmet, the FHP stated.

The bicyclist was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
