One Southwest Florida Walmart will get a major makeover

Walmart has big plans for Florida this year.

The mega-retail chain announced on April 16 it would be remodeling 58 locations across the state, including at least one in Southwest Florida, “as part of ongoing efforts to modernize the in-store and digital shopping experience.” That includes new store layouts, technology, and services to offer more convenient shopping and delivery “in as little as an hour for most customers.”

It’s part of Walmart’s plan to remodel more than 650 Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets in 2026, with $1.5 billion earmarked for Florida upgrades over the past five years, the company said.

“Walmart has been part of the communities across Florida for generations,” said Nick Berkeley, Senior Vice President, Southeast Business Unit, Walmart U.S. “By modernizing our store, we’re making shopping easier, whether customers are walking the aisles, picking up an order on the go, or having essentials delivered when life gets busy. We’re proud of our legacy here and look forward to helping families save time and live better every day.”

Walmart recently opened Supercenters in Apollo Beach, Jacksonville, and The Villages, and a Neighborhood Market in Ocala, with more stores coming in Lady Lake, The Villages, Crestview and Spring Hill.

Walmart previously announced remodels for Walmart Marketplace locations in Bradenton, Deerfield Beach, and Pensacola.

Which SW Florida Walmart is getting a make over?

Walmart announced the Walmart Supercenter, 19975 S Tamiami Trail in Estero, as one on the remodel list.

That Walmart, The News-Press reported, opened in 2015 after several years of controversy about the architecture of the store.

The LaBelle Walmart at Supercenter, 1951 W Hickpochee Ave. in Hendry County will also be remodeled.

What will the remodeled Walmart stores have?

The new Wal-Mart will feature changes to the layout to make shopping faster, updated pharmacies, Vision Centers offering free cleanings and adjustments, and interactive displays to show how products look in the home, the release said.

Walmart not the only store remodeling

Remodels are in the air. Publix Supermarkets has been remodeling its Florida stores, in some cases a total rebuild, to add wider lanes, self-checkout lanes, expanded service for online ordering, delivery and curbside pickup, expanded deli options, and larger displays in the bakery, meat, and seafood departments.

A new version of the popular grocery store chain opened at 6900 Daniels Parkway in Fort Myers in opened in September 2025 after being closed for remodeling since June 2024.

A complete transformation of the 48,387 square-foot Southwest Florida store took place over 14 months.

Aldi has been steadily converting Winn-Dixie stores it purchased in 2024 into its smaller, no-frills format. The company opened more than 60 stores in Florida in 2025 and nearly 20 so far this year, part of its ongoing plan to open more than 180 new stores nationwide in 2026 on its way to reaching 3,200 stores in the U.S. by the end of 2028.

Where can I find a Walmart near me?

There are about 345 retail Walmart and Walmart Neighborhood Market locations in the Sunshine State, the second-most of any state behind Texas (509), according to data site ScrapeHero.
