One lane of Punta Rassa boat ramp near Sanibel Causeway closed weekdays until Oct. 1

The south lane of Punta Rassa Boat Ramp near the Sanibel Causeway is off limits on weekdays from Wednesday, September 24, to remove the rest of the storm-damaged south dock.

The north lane will stay open.

The ramp will be fully accessible over the weekend of Sept. 27 and 28.

The work will continue on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 29 and 30, with a full reopening expected on Wednesday, October 1.

Boaters have been advised to be cautious and follow signs when at the ramp, located at 15001 Punta Rassa Road in Fort Myers, according to a Lee County news release.

They are also advised to avoid docks still under construction and not to climb on the riprap along the Sanibel Causeway.

This is the second phase of the Punta Rassa Boat Ramp project.

The ramp had a soft reopening in August following the Florida Department of Transportation’s Sanibel Causeway Emergency Restoration project, marking a significant recovery step after Hurricane Ian.

The boat ramp, after its reopening, currently provides two ramp lanes, partial docks, parking, and restrooms.

Once the second phase is finished, boaters can expect complete dock access, a fish-cleaning station, landscaping, and more lighting.
