No sweater weather yet but cooler temps, less humidity on the way for Daytona Beach

If you’re wondering when it might start to feel cooler (dare we say “fall-like?”) in Daytona Beach, you’ll have to wait a little longer to break out those sweaters and boots.

Temperatures are expected to remain slightly above average Wednesday, Oct. 8, at around 85 degrees, with less precipitation than we’ve seen over the last few days, according to the National Weather Service’s Melbourne office.

But the warmer, humid air should break as we move closer to the weekend. Temperatures are expected to drop to the 70s even though you’ll probably have to pack an umbrella for the forecasted scattered showers, particularly Friday into Saturday.

Weather in Daytona Beach?

Weather on Oct. 8 will be a mixture of sunshine and clouds, but a band of drier air is present over Volusia and the surrounding area, lowering humidity significantly, according to Robert Haley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Melbourne office.

Daytime highs are forecast for the mid 80s along the coast, reaching the upper 80s inland. Overnight lows range from the low to mid 70s, according to the NWS. There is a possibility for scattered showers and some gusty winds.

“With a low-pressure system offshore, it’s going to pull out that drier air but we’re going to have to keep a watch on the coast with a potential rip currents, beach erosion or dangerous surf,” Haley said, “and that risk continues into the next few days.”

When will we get cooler weather in Daytona Beach?

The short answer is soon — “but that’s by Florida standards,” Haley added.

Thursday through Saturday, the Volusia County area expects a cold front to roll in, which is the good news, according to Haley, who predicted temperatures in the 70s both during the day and overnight (Sunday evening could see a low of 66 degrees).

“The bad news is that rain chances are pretty high, but those chances drop by Saturday, and Sunday we’ll see the driest, coolest conditions we’ve seen in Florida for a long time,” Haley said.

What is the extended weather forecast for Daytona Beach?

The seven-day forecast for Daytona Beach shows clear skies and low humidity Sunday into next week. “A taste of fall is welcomed with lower humidity and high temperatures in the low to mid 80s. Low temperatures range from the low to mid 60s across the interior and the mid to upper 60s along the coast,” according to the NWS.
