No. 9 Florida State wasted little time asserting itself Wednesday night, scoring seven runs in the first inning on the way to an 11-3, six-inning win over Santa Clara for its 25th consecutive victory.
The Seminoles (36-4, 12-0 ACC) piled up 11 hits and never trailed, turning the game into a rout before Santa Clara (19-19, 4-2 WCC) could recover.
Isa Torres opened the game with a single, stole second and moved to third on an error before scoring on Jaysoni Beachum’s RBI single. Ashtyn Danley doubled twice in the opening inning to drive in three runs as FSU sent 11 batters to the plate and took a 7-0 lead.
Santa Clara scored once in the third after two Florida State errors, but the Seminoles answered immediately. Beachum doubled home Torres in the fourth, and Florida State put the game away with three runs in the sixth, highlighted by Danley’s second RBI double of the night.
Danley finished with three RBIs, while Beachum drove in three runs to raise her season total to 47.
Bella Dimitrijevic allowed one unearned run over three innings in her start. Jazzy Francik earned the win after retiring all six batters she faced. Makenna Reid and Marlee Gaskell closed out the run-rule victory.
