NASCAR weather forecast for Coke Zero Sugar 400: One week to go before Daytona race

One week out from the Coke Zero Sugar 400, the weather forecast looks …

… like you would expect from Florida in August.

Daytona International Speedway has seen that before. Since 1999, eight of its 27 summertime NASCAR Cup Series races have encountered delays, abbreviations or postponements related to uncooperative skies.

But there are still seven days for that forecast to change, and even when the green flag arrives at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 29, the actual result remains unpredictable. Here’s AccuWeather’s projection, as of Aug. 22.

Monday, Aug. 24: Partly sunny and humid; a thunderstorm in the afternoon. High temperature of 92 degrees and low of 78. Southeastern wind around 8 mph. 55% chance of precipitation.

Tuesday. Aug. 25: Some sun, then turning cloudy with a thunderstorm in spots in the afternoon. High temperature of 90 degrees and low of 75. Southeastern wind around 6 mph. 55% chance of precipitation.

Wednesday, Aug. 26: Partly sunny and humid with a thunderstorm in parts of the area. High temperature of 88 degrees and low of 76. Southeastern wind around 6 mph. 55% chance of precipitation.

Thursday, Aug. 27: Humid with some sun; a thunderstorm in spots in the afternoon. High temperature of 90 degrees and low of 77. Southeastern wind around 7 mph. 55% chance of precipitation.

Friday, Aug. 28: Sun and some clouds with a thunderstorm in spots in the afternoon. High temperature of 89 degrees and low of 76. Southeastern wind around 6 mph. 55% chance of precipitation.

Saturday, Aug. 29: Shifting clouds and sun with a couple of thunderstorms, especially late; humid. High temperature of 91 degrees and low of 77. Southeastern wind around 5 mph. 70% chance of precipitation.

Sunday, Aug. 30: Sun breaking through clouds at times with a couple of showers. High temperature of 89 degrees and low of 76. Northeastern wind around 4 mph. 62% chance of precipitation.
