The wait lasted 30 years. Now, it’s over.
For the first time since 1996, the NASCAR Cup Series returned to historic North Wilkesboro Speedway for a points-paying race. It took the form of the Window World 450 on July 19. And the winner?
Joey Logano.
He led 323 laps, his most ever in a Cup race, around the five-eighths-of-a-mile oval, edging runner-up Denny Hamlin and third-place finisher Chase Briscoe when it was all said and done. Logano is the first regular-season victor there since Jeff Gordon.

Though it was the first points event at North Wilkesboro in three decades, the track had hosted the All-Star Race, an exhibition, the last three years. Sunday just marked its official rebirth.
