A Deerfield Beach mother and her 14-year-old daughter died Saturday afternoon in a crash near South Bay, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say Tiffany Narcissus Laflet Silas, 37, was driving south on U.S. 27 shortly after 3:20 p.m. when she lost control of her Cadillac SUV and crossed into the northbound lanes. A tractor-trailer struck the SUV, throwing Silas from the car. A Nissan Altima then sideswiped the rear of the Cadillac.
Silas died at the scene. Deputies pulled her daughter, Malia Silas, from the wreckage but could not save her. Two other teen girls riding in the SUV were seriously injured and taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center for treatment.
Investigators did not say what caused Silas to lose control of the Cadillac. The crash remains under investigation.
