Michael Thorbjornsen won the Rocket Classic on Aug. 2 at the Detroit Golf Club.
The tournament was appropriately named in his case. He rocketed up the money list with a $1.8 million first-place check, the second-largest for a non-major or non-Signature event on the PGA Tour after the CJ Cup Byron Nelson ($1.854 million for winner Wyndham Clark).
Thorbjornsen was 67th on the money list entering the week and is now 38th, with nearly $3.7 million. He became the 45th player to win $3 million or more on the PGA Tour this season, and 109 players have earned $1 million or more, just short of the 112 millionaires from the 2025 season.
Scottie Scheffler will take the lead on the money list into the FedEx Cup Playoffs Aug. 13-16 at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, at TPC Southwind. He has just under $17 million and No. 2 Cameron Young ($13.9 million) can’t catch him if he defends his title this week at the Wyndham Championship at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., and wins the $1,476,000 first-place check.
