It’s time to vote for the Detroit Free Press Buffalo Wild Wings Best Pass Catcher for 2026.
Over the past two weeks, Free Press readers have weighed in on who they think will be the state’s top football players at each position heading into the upcoming season, based on high school sports reporter Jared Ramsey’s preseason coverage. After voting for the state’s best quarterback and running back, readers can turn their attention to the best pass catchers in this week’s poll.
Voting will close at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6.
Here are the nominees:
Deandre Bidden, Harper Woods
Bidden will share pass-catching duties with teammate Dakota Guerrant, the state’s top-ranked player. The rising junior split time between wide receiver and running back last season, totaling 853 all-purpose yards and 14 touchdowns on just 54 offensive touches.
Charles “Tre” Britton III, Belleville
A versatile playmaker with strong route-running ability, Britton creates problems for defenses. He recorded 981 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns on 53 catches during the 2025 season, while adding 500 more all-purpose yards as a returner for Belleville.
Anthony Cartwright III, Birmingham Detroit Country Day
Cartwright’s versatility makes him a mismatch for defenses across Metro Detroit. The Detroit Country Day standout split time between tight end, wide receiver and defensive end last season, impacting the game on both sides of the ball. The Oregon commit hauled in 43 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns, while adding two rushing scores. Defensively, he recorded 48 tackles, six sacks and four forced fumbles for the Yellow Jackets.
Darryl Flemister, Detroit King
Flemister played quarterback in his first two seasons at Detroit King but transitioned to receiver last season. The four-year starter’s speed allows him to create separation quickly, and he has developed into a reliable wideout. He is committed to Illinois as a defensive back.
Gideon Gash, Novi Detroit Catholic Central
After playing alongside brother Samson last season, Gash enters this season as the Shamrocks’ new go-to receiver. The Texas Tech commit finished with 540 yards and eight touchdowns on 19 receptions. He averaged 28.8 yards per catch and a touchdown every 2.4 receptions.
Mylan Griggs, Detroit Cass Tech
With C.J. Sadler and Will Sykes graduated, Griggs will take on a larger role in Cass Tech’s offense. He was the team’s third receiving choice on offense but had strong performances throughout the season including a two-touchdown performance against Detroit King the PSL championship game.
Dakota Guerrant, Harper Woods
Guerrant enters his final season looking to lead Harper Woods to a state finals appearance for the first time since 2023. The Oregon commit finished with 59 receptions for 1,217 yards and 27 touchdowns and added 600 yards and three touchdowns as a kick returner.
Holden Niemi, Dexter
Niemi’s physicality will be key as Dexter looks to return to the Division 2 state championship game. The rising senior not only can catch the ball, but his size allows him to block out defenders to help the offensive line. Niemi recorded 44 catches for 873 yards and 13 touchdowns in 10 games. He missed the final four games of the season due to injury.
Tyler Trusel, Birmingham Brother Rice
Trusel will look to build on last season’s success as Brother Rice’s top receiver. In his sophomore season last year, Trusel recorded 43 receptions for 550 yards and four touchdowns.
Chad Willis, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s
Willis’s physique makes him one of the Warriors’ top offensive targets. At 6-3 and more than 200 pounds, his size and strength are among his greatest assets as the team pursues a third consecutive Division 2 state championship. Last season, he hauled in 37 catches for 500 yards and four touchdowns.
