South Florida started its season with wins over two ranked teams. Could Miami be next?
The Hurricanes are in a different league than Boise State and Florida, ranked No. 6 in the US LBM Coaches Poll after a 2-0 start that started with a win over Notre Dame. New quarterback Carson Beck leads the ACC by completing nearly 78% of his passes with 472 yards and four touchdowns with no turnovers. UM also boasts a much-improved defense, ranking 36th against the run and 40th against the pass.
No. 23 USF enters riding high off its 18-16 win at the Gators. While Nico Gramatica’s field goal won the game, they got there thanks to do-everything QB Byrum Brown, who has 473 passing yards and and team-leading 109 rushing yards with three total TDs this season. The Bulls have beaten the Hurricanes once in seven prior meetings.

Miami vs USF predictions, picks for college football Week 3
Adam Lichtenstein, South Florida Sun Sentinel
Miami 35, USF 17: “The Bulls are the college football darlings right now, earning the No. 18 spot in the AP poll after upsetting ranked Boise State and Florida. USF is talented, featuring dual-threat quarterback Byrum Brown, but the two big wins belie middle-of-the-pack regular and advanced stats in many categories. Now that the Hurricanes are fully aware of the upset potential, I expect Miami to be on their game against a good but not elite USF squad.”
Bill Bender, Sporting News
Miami 31, USF 17: “How far can the Bulls take this run? Miami is the stiffest challenge of all, and Carson Beck has played under control in his first two starts. The Hurricanes beat South Florida 50-15 last season. It was a one-score game at halftime, but the Bulls had 32 carries for 62 yards. Can they generate enough of a running game here?”
